JOHN GALLAS

2. Call Home

I drowned at Kelling.

Sorry I didn't phone you;

it was quite sudden.

By now you'll be six feet high,

rank with unmown weed and wort.

John Gallas is an Aotearoa poet presently living in Markfield, England. 34 books published, mostly with Carcanet Press. Saxonship Project Poet, fellow of the English Association, St. Magnus Festival Orkney Poet, librettist, translator, biker, and tramper.

Gallas comments: 'This tanka is one of 198 in the book. A syllabic verse-form of 5/7/5/7/7 syllables. Kelling is a stony beach on the Norfolk coast.'
